A New Concept In The Works

I had this idea that made me chuckle. Nearly every year we see on the news some poor schleps at a parade in distress when one of their floats collapses, catches a pole or building, or just plain gets away from them and wreaks utter havoc. Well I thought to myself how funny it would be if they were doing it on purpose!

That's what this concept is to the right. I did a little doodle of 3 maniacal Macy's Day Parade (or generic for copyright purposes)  floats terrorizing the city as dozens of terrified citizens run away. In the background we see ominous plumes of thick dark smoke and a look of both madness and exhilaration in the eyes of the evil parade floats. The main float holds a screaming citizen in each fist.

I want the "camera" to be closer to the ground with a slightly off kilter horizon line. What was supposed to be a happy day of celebration quickly turned into a nightmare. I think it's cute and funny. I did this preliminary doodle and you all may see a completed drawing, inking and colored final in the following month or so should I decide this idea worthy of my time. In any case, I haven't updated in quite some time and I thought I'd give you folks a peek inside my brain. Let me know what you think of this idea. Thanks for stopping by!

"The Deadliest Catch" A New Design Project

As promised, I have a new pencil drawing to post today from my work in the studio yesterday. I'm working on a tongue-in-cheek shirt about that crab fishing show "The Deadliest Catch." Here's what I got so far:

I am hoping to finish this piece this week. Tonight I'm going to start inking this piece and trying to tighten up the details. In the next few days after that I'm going to figure out colors and finish the piece for submission. I'm going to use 6 colors on this one, and if my first choice tee company doesn't want it, I got another one that will also print in 6 colors. If they don't want it, there's a company that will possibly take it in 4 colors. And if they don't want it, I will make it available in my Redbubble store and for sale on this site.

An Update on the Octopus!

I put a lot of work into the Octopus Disasterpiece design tonight. I finished the inking layer and even began to color! I've laid down my flat colors and am calling it quits for tonight.

I need to do all my fancy half-tone screens, background, transition back into the shirt and lay it out on a shirt before I submit it to the all-knowing art directors over at Woot!

to see if they would like to run it as a daily tee.

Here's where I'm at:

Right now we're at 4 colors, black, whitish color, pink and cream; all on a light blue tee. I may add 1 more color, a darker pink to screen into the shadows of the octopus for more depth.

A new Derby!

I'm not starting this post with the official derby rules as this isn't my official entry. In any case, the theme is basically what you love about the Arctic Circle. So, I'm drawing baby polar bears building a sand castle in the snow.
